PT/INR Patient Self Testing
When your healthcare provider prescribes warfarin (Coumadin®) for you, it is very important to monitor your PT/INR to ensure it remains in a safe, therapeutic range, so you can avoid serious complications like stroke and bleeding.
We have partnered with device manufacturer Roche Diagnostics to allow patients to utilize the latest hand held device technology to self-test PT/INR from any location - at home, at work, or while traveling. This means a lot to our patients because they can have both freedom and close monitoring without sacrificing time or effort.
More importantly, it means better health outcomes. With self testing, you check your PT/INR level once a week, which means you will know immediately if you are out of the safe, therapeutic range. Clinical studies have shown more frequent testing lowers the risk of serious complications.
Since Medicare and many insurance plans cover weekly PT/INR self testing for most patients taking warfarin (Coumadin®), you will likely incur no additional out-of-pocket expense to enjoy the convenience and accuracy of self testing.
You will need a prescription from your healthcare provider managing your warfarin (Coumadin®) dosage to begin PT/INR self testing at home. Ask your healthcare provider if self testing is right for you!
